New Fabric and New Projects

We recently received the entire line of Moda's Basic Grey Persimmon collection. THE ENTIRE COLLECTION! It's gorgeous and very romantic (at least in my view). I love the way they've juxtaposed woodsy and sort of Native American motifs with a really soft feminine touch. It's just lovely. Below is a small sample Click HERE to view the entire collection or come into the store.
I think this arrow fabric is fantastic.

There's been a bit of a lack of completed projects on this here blog and part of it is because I was working on this Amy Butler Bag.
It's for my mom and I'm very excited to give it to her this weekend. I love the fabrics (all from the shop) which Sue helped me to pick out. She is so amazing with fabric coordination! The directions were very easy to understand. The pattern had a lot of pieces which isn't my favorite thing, but it went together so well and is so cute that I'll forgive the plethora of interfacings. I used Amy Butler's Field Bag and Tote (I made the bag version which is really just the tote with a zipper installed). Click HERE for the pattern.
Here's a closeup of the fabrics. Don't you just love this fantastic button? We have a wonderful button selection in the shop.

Then I made this quick pillow. I got the idea from THIS PIN from pinterest but changed the silhouette from the traditional sherlock to the BBC modern take on the show. This is a gift for a friend who adores the show (and really, who doesn't, it's fantastic!). I printed the silhouette off of the internet and traced it onto EZ-steam then affixed it to the black felt. After I adhered the oval and the silhouette to the pillow I hand stitched around them to keep the pieces from peeling away at the edges. The pillow itself was a piece of cake; two squares sewn right sides together. I'm pretty pleased with the results and can see lots of possibilities with other silhouettes.

What have you been up to? The weeks until Christmas are blowing away. I hope your finding some joy and happiness with your needle and thread.
Happy Sewing,
Love,
Jessie and Sue.

Tis the Season...

Don't hate me for this, but I think it's worth mentioning that there are only 11 weeks until Christmas! If that scares you then consider that Halloween is even closer. In that vein (vein, get it? Muwaahaaa), we have two kits. The kits use the Ghastlies for a fantastic and fun take on both holidays.

The first kit is a Ghastlie quilt perfect for a cold fall day. Kit is $63 and includes the pattern and fabric for the quilt top. Click HERE for all the Ghastlies we carry.

The second kit is a Ghastlie Christmas apron. I'm actually in love with this apron and am planning on making one for myself to wear during all my Christmas baking. I love that it's holiday themed but pokes fun at it too. Christmas for me, is very magical but there are still moments when it can feel a bit ghastly! The apron kit includes the Amy Butler pattern used so you know the apron is going to fit really well and be nice and flattering. This would be a perfect "tongue and cheek"gift for the quirky person in your life, or for yourself (like I said, I'm totally making myself one). Kit is 44.95 and includes all fabric and pattern.
Sorry about the awful glare on this picture.

Also we have the new Fig Tree collection "Somerset" from Moda. As always it's superb. Click HERE for more details.
Just a taste of the new Somerset collection from Moda. Her designs are
always so beautiful.

Why not cuddle up with a blanket and a warm glass of cider and plan out those Holiday projects now. That's always my favorite part anyway. Check out our Pinterest Boards HERE for lots of ideas. We have a file filled with costume ideas, a Ghastlie file with lots of creative uses for the Ghastlie fabric, a Christmas file, gifts file, and toys. Lots of sewing inspiration from around the internet.
Happy browsing and Happy Sewing!

Meet the Shop.

Today we're going to get to know a little bit about the Woman behind it all,  Sue Stanton. So how did it all happen? And where does all the magic come from? Today we get a peak at the owner and proprietor of Sew Unique Threads.

Sue is standing in front of her
favorite fabric. A Kaffe, "Brassica Moss"

First of all, I think we'd all like to know why you opened Sew Unique Threads and how it became the shop it is today.
Seven years ago I was very unhappy with the availability of embroidery products in my area. I loved hand and machine embroidery. Because I couldn't find what I was looking for and because I really wanted to bring that love to our area, I decided to open my own shop with a focus on teaching machine embroidery. I'm not sure what happened! seven years later, we still carry all of the embroidery products I love, but we also carry over 2,000 bolts of fabric. I guess I got bit by the sewing bug along the way, and there was a need for more then just high end embroidery supplies. My customers were also looking for unique and designer fabrics.

Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Sue and I'm a mom and wife. I'm not a Grandma yet...sadly... I do have three dogs and four cats I can spoil while I wait. I love to garden and create sitting areas in my yard, even if I never sit down! I can admire them from a distance.

How long have you been sewing and creating?
I made a macrame hanging table in college (I wish I still had it). I also rented a loom in college. I've been making ever since. I've always loved handmade and vintage things, it feels like creating is part of me.

What are your favorite types of products to make?
I like it all! quilting, crafting, clothing, home decorations...

What is your favorite thing about owning and running Sew Unique Threads?
I love to create a space where people can enjoy shopping and find unique items. I like the fact that my store is different even though, at times, that can be a little scary.

What was the last project you finished?
Cherry Wall hanging
Patterns and Kits for the Cherry Wall Hanging
in the store.

What is the your next project going to be?
To finish...Let's see, there are so many started, I'm not sure!

There you have it a little peak at the Woman who started it all! I hope you enjoyed this edition of "Meet the Shop" and as always...
Happy Sewing!
Love,
Jessie and Sue
